About the Author
Ann has been involved in mathematics education for 21 years, 11 of which she has taught everything from basic skills to Pre-Calculus at high school level. For seven years Ann prepped juniors and seniors for the ACT exam. Currently, she oversees math instruction at three high schools in Colorado and is responsible for helping to raise ACT scores in math.

Alex has taught high school English for 14 years in the Denver, Colorado, area. He currently is at Arapahoe High School, where he teaches AP English courses. In addition, Alex co-owns and operates the ACT Review Group, which offers both ACT preparation classes and private tutoring.

Jonathan has taught high school science for more than 20 years at West Leyden High School in Northlake, IL. During that time, he has taught review courses for the ACT and SAT. He has worked in labs at the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center, and the Feinberg School of Medicine. Jonathan has also received local and state recognition for outstanding teaching.

Good advice for general improvement, bad advice for those seeking perfection

I've been tutoring the ACT professionally for about 8 years. I'm only giving this book three stars because I don't think it delivers on its promise to get students to a perfect score. A much better title would be, "ACT prep for smart kids who want to improve their scores but who can't be bothered to learn every little thing the ACT will cover".

My first area of concern is the English and Math sections. This book doesn't cover all tested concepts (of which there are many) for either section. It covers most of them. How are students supposed to get perfect scores without full coverage?

My second main area of concern is question and practice test realism. The writers don't work for the ACT and do not reliably duplicate the nuances and complexities of real ACT questions. Furthermore, they don't point students to the obvious source of better practice material, The Real ACT Prep Guide (published by the ACT).

So although this book contains good advice, it's incomplete and certainly not a one-stop-shop for a perfect score. If you REALLY want a perfect score, you'll probably have to analyze several real ACT tests until you can identify what each problem is testing, not just get it right. Additionally, I'd recommend looking for books that just cover one section of the test. These books have a narrower focus and can therefore cover all the little concepts missing from ACT 36.

The book is great if you want to score 3 or 4 pointers ...

The book is great if you want to score 3 or 4 pointers higher on the practice tests.

There are some things in this book that don't cover on the practice ACT tests online and on the ones within the Red Book (3rd edition).
For instance, I don't necessarily agree with the reading and science strategies in this book.
I tried using the strategy where I would try to simplify the reading passages. This did not turn out well.
I increased my score of 22 on Reading to 29-30 average by simply locating where the specific examples are. No matter what the ACT questions, the answer will always be somewhere in the text. It took me over 5 practice tests to realize that. The science section is the same concept as well. I increased my score of 24 to 30 by doing the same. Overall, I think this book needs an update to match the current contents of the ACT. This deserves 4 stars because it does motivate me to work harder.

I hardcore reviewed this book before the June Act. I did worse in June than i had previously!! It definitely helped for english grammar but other than that the book was to in-depth and had to much unnecessary material that stressed me out for the test. I say just stick with the big red act book and dont spend money on this.

About the Author

Robert Gough holds a doctorate in botany and is Professor Emeritus of Horticulture at the College of Agriculture, Montana State University. He is the author of 17 gardening books, 500 extension service publications, and articles for Fine Gardening, Country Journal, National Gardening, Zone 4, Montana Magazine, and Harrowsmith. He served as Extension Horticulturalist in Montana, hosted the popular Dr. Bob’s Northern Gardening Tips radio program for 10 years, and was a panel member on PBS’s Montana Ag Live for 15 years.� He is a Fellow of both the American Society for Horticultural Science and the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, as well as a member of the advisory board of Zone 4.

Cheryl Moore-Gough holds an M.S. in Plant Sciences from Montana State University, where she is now an adjunct assistant professor in horticulture.�Cheryl has taught and coordinated the Montana Master Gardener program and has published numerous works alone and with her husband, Dr. Robert Gough, including five gardening books. She has written for Montana Magazine, Fine Gardening, American Nurseryman, and Zone 4 Magazine, and she hosts Northern Gardening Tips, which is broadcast by radio stations throughout Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota on the Northern News Network. She has been gardening and saving seeds in Montana for 30 years.

The Complete Guide to Saving Seeds explains far more about how to grow garden plants and vegetables from seed than you can expect to find on the backs of the packages. It covers how to plant, how to cultivate, and how to harvest both the seeds and the vegetables or flowers that tempted you to pay for those seeds in the first place.

This book also competes effectively with Seeds of Woody Plants in North America and Seeds of Wildland Plants, the unexcelled "gold standard" reference sources compiled by the US Forest Service. The USFS books are somewhat more comprehensive in their coverage of American species, while The Complete Guide to Saving Seeds one has better presentation that will be more comfortable for newcomers to seed propagation.

Most readers will find this book educational reading that expands their horizons, though its style is encyclopedic and it lacks plot. The gardeners in your life who already have plots outside with sunshine will appreciate this book as a fascinating gift.

Incomplete guide to saving seeds.

So far I have looked up 4 different flowers common to our neighborhood and not found them O.K.-let's say maybe I don't know ALL the nicknames for them, or the latin names mostly because I am not a botanist. Merely a gardening enthusiast. Well I could look for a photo, right? Wrong. Far too few of those. I can't find a passion flower for instance. Aren't those pretty common? So now I have to search on the internet and therefore defeat the purpose ( at least part of it), of purchasing this book. I want to love this book, I was so excited to get it but am disappointed.

Die Behistun-Inschrift hat ihren Namen von dem Ort Besutun (Behistan) im Iran, wo K�nig Darius I. (522-486 v. Chr.) eine Abbildung von sich in ein Felsmassiv einmei�eln lie�. Dazu lie� Dareios eine dreisprachige Tafel, in den Sprachen altpersisch, elamisch und babylonisch unter dem Relief anbringen. Da viele Reisende an eben dieser Stelle vorbeigekommen sein sollen war es der ideale Standort f�r Dareios seine milit�rischen Siege zu verewigen und zur Schau zu stellen. Die Inschrift erz�hlt wie der h�chste Gott der Perser, Ahura Masda, Dareios auserw�hlt um �ber Persien zu herrschen und wie er zahlreiche Revolten niederschl�gt und seine Feinde besiegt.
Das Relief zeigt Darieos mit zwei seiner Diener, der eine tr�gt eine Lanze der andere einen Bogen. Dareios schaut auf neun, vor ihm in einer Reihe stehende und offenbar gefesselte, Personen und steht mit seinem Fu� auf einer zehnten, liegenden Person. �ber der gesamten Szene schwebt die Gottheit Ahura Masda. Unter dieser Szene befindet sich eine Inschrift in altpersisch die sich �ber vier Spalten erstreckt und die Geschichte von Dareios Eroberung erz�hlt. Die gleiche Geschichte wird in zwei weiteren Inschriften auf babylonisch und elamisch erz�hlt.

So inspiring!

I have been a painter since the 1960s. As a contemporary female artist, it is so important to learn about the struggles so many female artists have experienced, and this book showed me how artists were able to be noticed and admired, throughout history. The various essays have many different voices, and the introduction really set the tone for a very readable but informative book. I highly recommend it!

Singular Women: How do we study them?

Well-written, interesting content. Introduction points out the differing strategies and ideas discussed in essays about how women artists have been portrayed and how they ought to be in the future. Why does art done by male artists traditionally get looked at objectively as art, whereas art done by female artists is rarely examined without being explained or contextualized by the female artist's personal life or male artists they are associated with? The book also examines in depth, from multiple angles, the burning question of whether or not the monograph is an applicable format for studying the female artist.

About the Author
Richard P. Feynman was raised in Far Rockaway, New York, and received his Ph.D. from Princeton. He held professorships at both Cornell and the California Institute of Technology. In 1965 he received the Nobel Prize for his work on quantum electrodynamics. He died in 1988.

Dissapointing

I find this book dissapointing. It doesn't compare with the insight, clarity, and beauty found in the famous "Feynman lectures in physics". Basically what Feynman does in this book is simplify and coaches one though complex Computer Science/ Information Theory Concepts. The book may have the small size of a novel, but I find it to be more like a textbook; because it has many equations (even exercises in the first chapter), and also one has to be quite attentive while reading. I'm not saying this is a bad book, only that, if you liked the "Feynman lectures in physics" it doesn't automatically mean you'll like this book. This book is different, obviously in the sense that it doesn't deal much with physics, and secondly in the fact that it is not passionatly written, I think. Why is this book so expensive anyways?
Now that you got my warning. I can definitely recomend this book for people intereseted in things like:
-theoretical limits of computers (enthropy, energy)
-physical realizations of logic gates (transistors)
-quantum computers
