The "E" in Wall.E stands for Excellent

The "Art of ---- " books that are published in connection with the release of (mostly) animated films have evolved over the years from expensive, large format, coffee table smashers to smaller (and thankfully less expensive) formats. However, the artwork between the covers of the latest generation of these books is no less lush. In the tradition of "Art of..." books, The Art of Wall.E documents the development of the characters and story line through a wealth of drawings that range from thumbnails to painstakingly executed paintings. It seems that in making these movies no possible detail is overlooked with the very talented folks at Pixar sweating even the smallest of them. If you enjoyed the movie, owning the book is a great way to enrich and prolong the experience.

Pastel Drawings Were Missing

[[VIDEOID:25177521]]This book carried a much darker tone due to the environment -- Earth with tons of trash. The colour palette from the movie was limited to very dark tones. This book isn't as colourful compared to other Pixar art books as a result. But that is not a bad thing.

There are a few pages right up front on visual storytelling. It provides a nice introduction into the conceptualizing of the movie, and into producing a movie where the main characters have with no dialogue.

In the first chapter "Cinematic Dictation", it talks about how storyboards helps make the movie. Included in this chapter are lots of storyboards in different styles by different artists.

"Trash Planet" is the name of the second chapter. It also happens to be the same name for the movie for more than ten years before it was changed to WALL-E. Here we have sketches, paintings and colorscripts for the trash filled environment WALL-E was set in. There are also character designs for WALL-E and EVE. It's amazing to look at these paintings and see how they have evolved into actual movie scenes.

The last chapter is called "The Axiom". It contains concept art for the spaceship, robots, interiors. There are also discarded ideas such as using alien blobs instead of humans.

Missing from this book are pastel drawings, the common ingredient found in Pixar art books. Ralph Eggleston, production designer for Finding Nemo, changed to a different style!

This is another marvelous art book for any Pixar fan.

I'm always a fan of the "Art of [Pixar movie]" books. They are always packed full of wonderful goodness, and this one is no exception. It really shows how much goes into just the planning phases of Wall-E. The art and articles are such fun to browse through even if you're not interested in reading the interviews, etc. Readers who are not familiar with the animation process will find it intriguing to see how the film's style progressed and developed over time. A complete hit as usual with these books.

About the Author

Thomas Liggett was born on March 29, 1944 in Danville, Kentucky. At the age of two, he moved with his missionary parents to Latin America. His early education took place primarily in Buenos Aires, Argentina and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He attended college at Oberlin, where he became interested in probability theory under the influence of Samuel Goldberg, who had been a student of William Feller. He continued his study of probability at Stanford, taking many classes with Kai Lai Chung, and writing a thesis on problems related to the invariance principle with Samuel Karlin. In 1969 he joined the UCLA faculty; he has spent his entire career there. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he has been active in academic administration, serving as vice-chair and chair of the UCLA Department of Mathematics.

Liggett was chief editor of The Annals of Probability in 1985-87. He was a Sloan and a Guggenheim Fellow, spoke at the the 1986 International Congress of Mathematicians, and was the 1996 Wald Memorial Lecturer for the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Professor Liggett's interest in interacting particle systems began shortly after his move to UCLA, when he read a preprint of Frank Spitzer's fundamental 1970 paper. It is an unusual paper, in that it is much more concerned with descriptions of models and statements of open problems than with proofs of theorems. It provided an ideal way for a young probabilist to test his mettle: The challenge was to solve as many of Spitzer's problems as he could. The subject of interacting particle systems has continued to be the main focus of his research. He has written two books (the other is

Stochastic Interacting Systems: Contact, Voter and Exclusion Processes) and over 60 papers in this area. He has also contributed to a number of other fields, including nonlinear semigroups, subadditive ergodic theory, negative dependence, optimal stopping, combinatorics, random graphs, and renewal theory.

Easy to understand

I read this book in preparation for the book "Stochastic Interacting Systems" by the same author. Hence I only read those portions of the book recommended in the preface of Stochastic Interacting Systems.

I found the proofs (with few exceptions) quite easy. Certainly not trivial, but not too hard, either. The subject itself was very well explained, no doubt Prof. Liggett knows this subject thouroughly!

At least in the portions I read, the book was virtually typo-free! This is particularly important, I believe, if one uses the book for self study - as I did.

With this book, ANYONE can be a "puppetman"!

This book illustrates every aspect of puppet making, and goes into areas not covered in many books. You don't have to speak "puppet-ease" to know what Pierre is writing about either. And the way the book is written, it is like Pierre is giving you a personal class in puppet-making. I began buying puppets rom Pierre 13 years ago, and have learned a lot from this book, as well as Pierre personally. The bottom line is this ... is it worth the investment of this book (and the materials) to get a message through to children, and hopefully make them laugh? Absolutely!

You Can Make A Professional Puppet

I am not familiar with the author or his work but I was highly disappointed by other books and articles on the subject.
If the cost of the book is preventing you from purchasing it, hopefully this review will change your mind. If you expect to see instructions for making his puppets, you won't. What you will see are solid instructions for making a basic puppet. Once you master the principle of the mouth/face assembly you should be able to understand the many ways you can vary this basic puppet to suit you. This book gives you the basics and your own ingenuity supplies the rest.
You do not need any expensive materials. You don't even need a sewing machine.
These puppets can also be made in assembly line fashion.
If you were to take a class on puppetmaking you would easily spend $40 and not
learn the techniques found in this book.
The only issue I noticed was the erroneous use of the term radius when it should be circumference. You are measuring around the outside edge of the mouth. It is correctly illustrated with arrows, however.

Fantastic book for a beginner

I have in the past looked at other puppet building material and have found that this book is fantastic for a beginner. It is stated that the mouth plate is the hardest part to build, and that was easy. Pierre explains step by step all that is required to build a puppet. It took me three days to create my first ever puppet due to hand stitching the seams. The fact that I can change the patterns whenever I want to create new shaped creations is great. Anyone wanting to get into puppet making - this book is the perfect place to start. Thank you Pierre Gillette for writing this guide.

About the Author
Maggie Moon MS, RDN, is a registered dietitian nutritionist and author of The Elimination Diet Workbook (Ulysses Press, 2014) and numerous articles for popular health magazines. She has developed curricula for Brooklyn College, NYC after-school programs, and providers of continuing professional education for dietitians. Ms. Moon has been profiled in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ book, Launching Your Dietetics Career (Eat Right Press, 2011, 2016). She completed her clinical training at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, and holds a Masters of Science degree in Nutrition and Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from U.C. Berkeley. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and a giant shelf of cookbooks.

This is a great cookbook. It is a combination of the Mediterrean ...

This is a great cookbook. It is a combination of the Mediterrean Diet and the DASH diet. The author claims it is a scientific approach foir enhancing brain function and helping to prevent Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I have and have had family members with both Alzheimer’s and Dementia. These are brutal conditions! This book will help me prepare healthier brain food for my family. Each recipe has: MIND foods, yeild, time, difficutly and nutritional values. They are very easy to follow and ingrediants are easy to find.

I enjoyed reading the descriptions of each food. It was also very helpful to know what food was available in each season. Some of the foods I have never tried, but after reading the description of what they look like, taste like and how to prepare them, I will incorporate them into our diet. Thank you Maggie Moon for having sample food planning charts to get me going.

Basic and seems hastily thrown together

I get the sense this book was cranked out quickly. I've been looking for a book on the MIND Diet for a while, and I was hoping to find a lot more depth and detail than I can find with a Google search. The basic info about the diet in the beginning of the book doesn't really go beyond what is available online. If you simply Google, you can find the list of foods to eat, how frequently to eat them, and what foods to avoid. There is a little section on the science behind the MIND Diet studies, which I found helpful and clearly written.

However, this book is padded big-time with stuff that has nothing to do with the MIND diet specifically, like a list of vegetables and whole grains with long paragraphs of information describing the different foods. The worst of the padding is a section on food safety, with advice such as "Wash your hands and wash them well." Really? (I'm a huge proponent of hand washing, but I don't think any adult needs to be told in a diet book to wash their hands.)

I could excuse the padding if the recipes were great recipes developed specifically for the book, maybe by a chef or in collaboration with a chef since the author is an RDN. However, the recipes appear to be freebies randomly collected from a variety of sources, mostly RDs who get to plug their site at the end of the recipe and even places like the Whole Grains Council or the Blueberry Council. There are tons of free recipes available online, and it's easy to Google recipes that fit the guidelines of the MIND Diet, so I'd expect a lot more thought and recipe development to go into a book like this to make it a good value.

Most of the recipes are super simple, stuff just about anyone could make up on their own. For example, roasted asparagus with olive oil, lemon juice and lemon zest. Another example, soup made with canned white beans, veg broth, pasta, a few veggies chopped up and some lemon juice. Again, no recipe needed.

That said, there are a few interesting recipes that make use of exotic whole grains or offer unusual ideas for how to eat familiar foods. Overall, I'd recommend the book for people who are total newbies to the MIND Diet and have very little to no experience cooking at home and who want a basic, simple guide that lays out the MIND Diet in one place without having to Google or put together their own meal plans.

Since I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and mostly make up my own simple recipes, this book was a little too basic for me.

These recipes are detailed and easy to follow

As my parents get older, I become more and more aware of their health- including their mental health! The possibility of dementia is always with us as we age, and this book helps us eat food that will hopefully lessen the possibility. These recipes are designed to improve memory and mental acuity. The author is registered nutritionist and knows what she is talking about. The "brain food" in this book is not only healthy, but also delicious! These recipes are detailed and easy to follow. There are even relatively healthy desserts! I am a big fan of this cookbook and have been enjoying it very much. My parents have been loving it too. Highly recommended!

Good series

This is hard for me because I really liked this series for the not part. My biggest complaint is with the last book. It feels unfinished. Yes most of the action/ mystery was cleared up but there were still things left unfinished. Yes I get that there is going to be another book from a new characters POV but that is the problem unless it is going to be from Tristan's POV these characters still have a story to finish in my opinion. My problem with the series as a whole was some editing mistakes. Which I don't take stars away unless it is just atrocious which this was not. But I mention it because I know some people make a big deal out of it. So if this is a pet peeve of yours beware. I did really like the plot, characters, and settmgs (locations). I enjoyed this on the whole but I am disappointed that the author chose to end these characters story to soon.

Short but sweet!

Great storyline with an amazing cast of characters. However, there are a couple things that I'd like to share: one is the length of the episodes. Maybe you can combine a few to add length to the overall reading pleasure. You know when you're reading a great book that you just don't want to end? Well that's the disappointment I felt upon reading the first three installments, I'd glance at the time remaining in the story and think NO! It can't be over so soon! The second critique I have is the spelling and grammatical errors. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would like to proofread your works (myself included) before it goes to final print or submission. Overall these episodes are a fantastic read and I highly recommend them!!

This book was GOOD and i mean i only come across a few of books like these. May i just mention ONE THING i LLLLOOOOVVVVVEEEE DAMON and HATE Tristan i am silently begging the Author to kill him no offense to those Tristan fans out there REMBER THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION!!!
