Beautiful Neuroanatomy for the non-Medical Neuroanatomist

The illustrations in The Brain Book make it easy to follow, and give a good understanding of the shape and function of the various regions of the brain. It's a great book for those who are already familiar with the basics of neuroanatomy to understand the field more clearly. Advanced nursing students, general biology students, and artificial intelligence students seeking analogies should find this book visually fascinating.
BUT if this book is your first exposure to neuroanatomy, you may find the vocabulary of this immense field overwhelming. The writing is simple enough for bright and determined high school students (or us nonbiologists who've been out of college more than 10 years) to follow in modest doses. Still, don't expect to digest a lot of this material in one sitting. It looks beautiful in the library, but a 14 week course text will overwhelm those who want a 14-day book. Take your time, and go back to this book more than once.
In contrast, if you are a medical student, the text probably does not provide the level of sophistication you expect. As a result, the chapters can seem randomly ordered and the details you want may be impossible to find. Also, you may be aware of other sources of excellent graphic depictions of the brain.

This book was a great find. It has enough information to be a really thorough without being too "medical". Addresses all aspects of neurology. Great for a high school student. Illustrations help to explain concepts well.

An excellent text and reference book.

A classic text book of the body's most important organ. Superbly well illustrated and clearly written in language accessible to the lay person, this introductory text is a must for first year students of neurobiology and could serve as a useful coffee table reference for interested persons outside the medical professions.
